about

This is the first track off Sleep Like a Noble. When I wrote Wax Diamond, it was 2016, and it seemed like we were headed down a predictable road. Then, the 2016 election happened, and everything changed. I'll never forget riding the subway on the day after the election and just seeing the look of people; how disgusted and helpless, and defeated they were. The air changed completely, literally overnight. However the ball was rolling on WD, and we (Jackie, Jason and I) recorded it and (with help from Matt and Charlie), performed it. I'll never forget being on stage somewhere and playing "River"( which is a song off of WD that's really about being detached, on a cloud of your own), and thinking to myself, "Damn, this is not what I want to be saying right now." I believe whole-heartedly that there's always a need for love songs, for foolish, fun, rock and roll (and there's some of that on SLaN too), but I felt a different climate around me, and I had to react.
Anyway, with this track I tried to address the anger and disappointment that I think many of us feel about Trump's America, while acknowledging that the problem is more than just one unsophisticated, racist and sexist man-baby (and the removal of said man-baby is not an instant fix to all that plagues our society). If you like it share it, download the album, put it on a mixtape. If you hate it, oh well.

lyrics

If you offered the job, yeah I think I’d take it,
How else is the change supposed to start?
And I don’t even care where the money comes from,
I promise the bullet comes straight from the heart.

We got a moral conundrum here,
Is there a right way out,
I fear there’s not.

Cause I don’t know if we will make it,
So how the hell am I supposed to feel?
Cause it don’t even matter if you cut the head off,
We still got the rotting fruit in the field.

Is it too late to bring a plow
Push that darkness out somehow,
And heal.

I know exactly why you called me,
You think it’s time we kill the whale,
But I know lighting fires will only fail,
And put more wind in their sails.

The Planes Brooklyn, New York

The Planes are a three-piece indie rock band from Brooklyn, NY. Since their founding in 2010 by guitarist/singer Stephen Perry, they’ve earned a reputation for writing catchy indie rock jams, showing up to gigs on time, and taking that last drink ticket off your hands, y’know, if you’re not going to use it anyway and it would just go to waste. ... more
