County Line is the 5th song on SLaN and it's one of oldest tracks on the album. I wrote it right around the time we were recording Wax Diamond, but we didn't have time to learn and record it. This tune became a staple of the set that Charlie and Matt and I played on small New England and Midwest tours (man, I miss the road like you wouldn't believe). Tracking it was relatively easy compared to the other songs on the album, probably because we played it live so many times. This is another guitar solo that I'm really proud of.

The song is about balancing a part time relationship with a part time career as an occasionally touring musician (but I think it really applies to anyone who isn't ready to settle down). It's not about me or anyone in particular; it's relatable, somewhat clichéd fiction. That being said, the first part of the second verse ("All the times I wish I could say, something's different, something changed, but the truth is we're going nowhere") hit home when I sang it. It's a lot easier to give the illusion that you're on the up and up, than it is to break through to that next level, that's for sure.
