I'm not entirely sure what this one is about. It's kinda about breaking into a basement with old friends and throwing a party, and not really knowing is stuff is cool, or what. But it's also not really about anything specific, I guess it's up to the listener.
Originally, it was played on a finger-picked acoustic, but I'm not good at finger picking and my acoustic is kinda f'ed up, so I played it on the Strat and I think it came out better. I had decided to overdub the instrumental part when the drums kick in, so I just kinda noodled around when I got there on the original track. As luck would have it, it sounded pretty great with both the tracks going, so I left them both on. There's this one lick that people might think is a delay pedal, but no, I actually played that! (minor victories like this make it all worthwhile)
lyrics
Breaking in the cellar door,
Waking up all the ghosts,
You got the best of me, for sure,
Better than you’ll ever know.
You can sleep upside down,
You can sink like a stone,
Into dreams that are turned around,
Into memories unknown.
I just want to play the part,
I just want to be a good host,
But I don’t know where to start,
‘Cause if you want to leave, hey you better leave.
And I don’t want to be your claim,
I don’t want to be your home,
But I don’t want to be replaced,
Or boxed up with your winter clothes.
You can sleep upside down,
You can sink like a stone,
Or you can hold your breath for now,
One day learn to float.
I just want to play the part,
I just want to be a good host,
But I don’t know where to start,
Cause if you want to leave, hey you better leave, you better go.
I just want to stay the same,
I just want to man the post,
But if the cops are walking up the lane,
Then we better leave, we gotta leave,
We gotta go.
