The Oracle 03:51
Doesn’t speak, but shows a sign Doesn’t conceal, but neither is lucid Doesn’t break the mold in five But doesn’t fit like you’d expect it Isn’t late, but not on time Isn’t free, but not repressive Not released, nor held in chains And not constrained by mortal motives Doesn’t disguise, or give a name Isn’t plain, but not embellished Is older than the flame And wise enough to fear it Won’t appear for just anyone Can be learned, but not imparted Can be burned into the sun And revealed for those receptive
2.
The Scandal 02:31
Well you really got me, on the ledge again Just to sit and wonder, where the side streets end But there is no reason to fight or defend No one is that eager, to sit in this pen But you gotta wonder, when the time is right If this broken feeling, will last all night Or drift away into the morning light It may pass for hunger, but we know it’s fright And when you come down on a lazy afternoon And see that sundial point its finger at you Too early to surrender, too late to refuse Now you are the latest scandal on the evening news Well you really got me, on the ledge again Just to sit and wonder, where the side streets end But there is no reason to fight or defend No one is that eager, to sit in this pen, this pen

The Gallows 03:08
I don’t need to have a secret, But what the hell, it don’t concern you anyway Should have known I’d never keep it A little bit of drinking and my thoughts just slip away So why can’t I just see The trap in front of me And get down on my knees To save my skin Oh, where to begin? Cause now I’m headed to the gallows I think we know that I don’t deserve this fate Not as if it really matters But the rent is in the mailbox, the parking tickets paid So why can’t I just see The trap in front of me And get down on my knees To save my skin Oh, where to begin? Cause I never learned to keep a secret Shoulda known it’d come back to haunt me someday Shoulda known that I would leak it A little bit of thinking and my thoughts just slip away So why can’t I just see The trap in front of me And get down on my knees To save my skin Oh, where to begin?

I can’t stay long, we’ll sit by the window The traffic crushes, the still of the hour The waves build up slowly and race to the shore On the horizon an old sailor charts his course Tell the jewelers seven crowns for me One for every night of the week Place the next one by my bed while I sleep And don’t forget to leave behind a key I can’t believe it, the blow landed softly I turned to my right side, saw chaos all around me The quiet of the cafe was shattered by the force Of an explosion we felt at the center of the Earth Tell the tremors please stop shaking me The ground feels soft and slick beneath my feet Underneath the quicksand, I can’t breathe So I wait for a merciful release I can’t stay long, we’ll sit by the window The traffic crushes the still of the moment The waves build up slowly and rush to the shore On the horizon, an old sailor charts his course

about

This album was written, recorded, and mixed in one week for Cody Swanson's Weekly EP Podcast. Working on a tight schedule with minimal gear really allowed some simple ideas to flourish. The resulting four tracks are about as different as any four songs on a Planes EP could possibly be, and we think you'll find each one has its own charm.

about

The Planes Brooklyn, New York

The Planes are a three-piece indie rock band from Brooklyn, NY. Since their founding in 2010 by guitarist/singer Stephen Perry, they’ve earned a reputation for writing catchy indie rock jams, showing up to gigs on time, and taking that last drink ticket off your hands, y’know, if you’re not going to use it anyway and it would just go to waste. ... more
