I guess Border Wall is the single off of SLaN. It definitely came out the closest to how I heard it in my mind, and it's the appropriate mix of political song/sad love song to represent this album. I don't know that the theme really needs explanation.
Playing a melodic bass line underneath of big jangly arpeggios is such a great feeling. Laying down the intro to this song was a blast. This was another rare track that came together quickly. From tracking through mixing, it was the one that was "done" first (and in that regard, became a sort of reference for the rest of the album).
Anyway, I think this is the catchiest and best sounding track. If you haven't heard the album yet, this is a good place to start. If you dig it, the other 11 tracks are pretty ok too.
lyrics
You could hide behind the clouds,
If I could move the world around,
It’s the way you choose your words,
And the way you fold your gown.
We’re at the border wall again...
And we could march it two abreast,
Under fire on the Somme,
It’s the way you brush it off,
And the way you put me on.
We’re on the border wall again,
But which way do we run?
‘Cause I never know if it’s safer to stay,
Stock up the bunker and shelter in place,
Or wait till it’s night and escape in the dark,
‘Cause I have a home dear, wherever you are.
And I can see your hands again,
I can feel your fingers slide,
And another day begins,
While another morning dies.
We’re at the border fence again,
What’s the difference on either side?
‘Cause I never know if it’s safer to stay,
Stock up the bunker and shelter in place,
Or wait till it’s dark and escape in the night,
‘Cause I have a home dear, wherever you lie.
The Planes are a three-piece indie rock band from Brooklyn, NY. Since their founding in 2010 by guitarist/singer Stephen
Perry, they’ve earned a reputation for writing catchy indie rock jams, showing up to gigs on time, and taking that last drink ticket off your hands, y’know, if you’re not going to use it anyway and it would just go to waste....more
So many amazing, beautiful songs on this album. Gives me so much hope for what's to come from this duo and everyone making music in this genre. the_technology
